We're helping our neighbors at Bourne Public Library collect new PJs for children ages 0-15 for the Boston Bruins / Cradle to Crayons pajama drive. Donated pajamas will go to kids in need across the Commonwealth. DROP OFF YOUR DONATIONS AT THE LIBRARY UNTIL MARCH 15. We have new Early Literacy kits at South Dennis Library. Each kit comes with plush toy(s), corresponding book(s), and reading guide. Great for children learning to read! hank you to Falmouth Library for lending these to us for our South Dennis patrons. Stop by South Dennis Library to check them out! Take Your Child to the Library Day is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere
to take their children to their local library. This year, the South Dennis Library will offer a scavenger hunt with prizes and personalized library card holders for every child who visits! #takeyourchildtothelibraryday You can now access current and previous issues of The Register, The Barnstable Patriot, and other local newspapers - some dating back to the early 1800s.

Thank you to the Community Preservation Committees of the towns of Dennis, Barnstable, and Yarmouth for funding this project and to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Lothropp Family Foundation for their partial funding of the digitization of The Barnstable Patriot from 1830-1930 2018 was an important year for the ‘gingerbread library.’
Its unique historical building celebrated the 100th anniversary of being used as a library, and there was great excitement when the library replica built in 2004 came back to us and again needed a new home. We were pleased when the winner of the raffle turned out to be from our own neighborhood so the little library and its offspring will not be far apart. In a time when everyone wants the newest gadget—and wants it yesterday- -our patrons keep coming back because, though we are always getting new books and films, the personal touches we offer, the feeling of walking on the floorboards of history as patrons browse, the attention and sense of community nobody ever gets in a box store, all endure. In 2019, the library will welcome a new director, as I hand over a special place I’ve loved to the capable and creative hands of the library’s current assistant director, Veronica Hernandez. It has been great to know and serve so many wonderful patrons. Thanks for all the fine memories, and keep reading!! - Anne Speyer |
The library will be closed on Monday, February 18th, in observance of President's Day.
